Soft Peaks: Is it Worth the Hype?

Photos by Wern Noppason

The ice cream tastes like fresh milk, and the syrup adds a zing. It’s rich and silky texture runs through your mouth, without being sickeningly sweet. It was delicious, but didn’t meet expectations. There’s nothing better than a sweet treat to comply with a sweet-aired autumn day. We took moment to stop by Soft Peaks, Vancouver’s only organic soft serve ice cream, and we had a great time. This cafe’s lovely atmosphere and delicious food make it a must for ice cream fanatics everywhere. It might not leave you feeling full, but if you feel the need to improve your feed, Soft Peaks is the place for you.

Located in Gastown, Soft Peaks is a mere 60 minutes travel from the Metrotown Skytrain. For us, the walk from the skytrain to the cafe was serene. The drizzling heavy rain and mellow saxophone meant it was genuinely autumn. The cafe felt like home. The place embraced us with warmth, from the friendly workers to lively music.

Our choice of flavours ranged from Honeycomb Peak to Blue Mountain, including premium toppings, like a fresh piece of Okanagon and Fraser Valley honeycomb. Ingredients come from local sources. Their milk comes from a local dairy farm with top grade quality milk. Their cups, spoons, and napkins from local suppliers. Partial proceeds are donated to BC’s Children’s Hospital Foundation.

The portion was smaller than expected and it was ridiculously over-priced. Taking into consideration the “organic-ness”; all the premium toppings, and the high value ingredients, you can see why. It’s one place you’ve got to check what the buzz is all about, if for nothing else, because it’s aesthetically pleasing. This ice cream is feed goals.
